Deaf Awareness

This project was created from my many years of working with a deaf colleague who is proficient at lip reading.  After encountering another possible deaf workmate who couldn't lip read, I realized that the office may need a little refresher on how to best communicate with someone who cannot hear and who also may not be capable of reading lips.

Workflow & Tools Used:

  • Utilized CoPilot and a deaf co-worker as my SMEs.

  • Visual layouts, scenarios and quizzing/interactive elements organized at the storyboard stage with PowerPoint. The full slide deck was then imported into Articulate Storyline where text was re-formatted for screen reader accessibility.

  • Fonts and color palette determined in PowerPoint at the storyboarding stage with webaim.org's contrast checker and maketintsandshades.com.

  • Slide images (including hypothetical branding) created using AI's ChatGPT, CoPilot and Dall-E. Image editing with Adobe Photoshop and Firefly.

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Visual Design, e-learning Development.
